The Right Place at the Right Time
I recently started going to roller derby practices and it has been quite an experience! The majority of the women, though sweet, are truck-talking, tattooed ladies and it's a whole different environment. This week my doctor said I needed to be inactive for a week; that meant that I was going to have to miss Wednesday night practice. I decided to show up anyway because I had some gift certificates I wanted to turn in. So, I was sitting at the one table and I was going to leave as they started but there were a few new girls so I started talking to them. Then, I moved to a table in the front closer to the ring to watch the practice for a few minutes.  One of the girls got off the rink and happened to sit at the table I was at because her stuff was there. She asked me why I wasn't out there and I told her. Then I asked her and she said her head wasn't in it. She then started crying and telling me that she was homeless and had been living in her car. She had lost her job, and her apartment, and now she had a bladder infection because she kept holding it in because she had nowhere to go potty.

I immediately asked her if she had somewhere to stay that night and she said that her friend's mom had said she could stay with her for a few days. I instantly felt like God said that I should give her $100. Money I don't have. I argued with Him for the next 2 hours as we sat there. We made some small talk, sat in silence, watched the team, she cried on and off. Then when the practice was closing I asked if she had a checking account. She told me she did but was overdrawn and that they didn't like her there. I told her I wanted to bless her but all I had was a check. She refused, but I insisted. So I asked her name and began to write the check. I wrote the numbers $100, when I instantly heard God say "make it 2." Before I could even argue or think twice, I crossed off the amount and changed it to $200; as if it was just paper. She was floored, and I told her that I would pray for her (the first time I even mentioned God to her) to find a job the next day. She thanked me and cried, and I left that night without any regrets. I felt at peace about giving money I really didn't have to give.

Isn't that just like God? To perfectly time that I was unable to play that night, but I happened to go anyways for a few minutes. Then I happened to sit at her table, and she happened to get off the rink and have her stuff there. That I ended up staying for 2 hours like she did. Perfectly timed.

The next day, my husband, Grant, who had no idea what I had done, called me to say he had just received an unexpected bonus for $400! God doubled my small offering! Then Friday night I saw her and she told me how much I had blessed her and that the next day she had gotten a job! She gave me the sweetest card telling me that she thought there weren't any good people left and I had given her hope and that she had prayed for me. I know this woman doesn't know God, but I was able to briefly tell her that God had blessed me for blessing her. I don't think she understands it all, but she is getting to see how great He is!
